Backups and restore

Your trades live in NinjaTrader, but your journal, screenshots, settings and backtests live only in TradeScope. A backup keeps them safe. Everything is in Settings → Your Data.

Making a backup

1. Click Back up now.
2. Choose where to save the file. It’s named like TradeScope-backup-2.4.0-2026-09-30.tsbak.

A backup is a single file that holds:

• your trades, journal, accounts and settings
• your Strategy Lab backtests
• your screenshots
• chart data, if Include chart bars in backups is on

Keep chart bars included if you can. NinjaTrader can’t download old minute data again after a reinstall, so a backup may be the only copy.

Save backups somewhere other than your PC, such as a USB drive or cloud folder, and not inside NinjaTrader’s folder. The top of the page shows when you last backed up.

Restoring a backup

Use this to move to a new PC or to recover after a problem.

1. Click Choose File… and pick a .tsbak file.
2. Check the preview: when it was made, how many trades, journal days and backtests it holds.
3. Click Restore this backup…, read what will be replaced, then click Restore & Restart.

Before restoring, TradeScope saves a safety copy of your current data and switches back to it if anything goes wrong. Screenshots from the backup are added to the ones you already have; none are deleted. A backup made by a newer version of TradeScope can’t be restored into an older one.

If the backup has no backtests, the restore removes the backtests you have now. TradeScope warns you first.

Archives

An archive freezes your trade history as it is today, so you can look back at it even after NinjaTrader’s data is gone. It’s useful before reinstalling NinjaTrader or resetting a data connection.

• Create: give it a name and click Create archive.
• View: opens the archive across the app. Click Back to live to return, or + Continue with live to combine the archive with your current trades.
• Export: saves the archive as a .tsarchive file you can keep elsewhere. Import… brings one back.
• Delete: if the archive was never exported, you’ll be asked to type DELETE to confirm.

Archives hold trades only, not your journal or settings, and they aren’t included in a backup. Export the ones you want to keep.

Under Backup folder, you can choose a folder and have each new archive saved there automatically.

Sync Guard

If NinjaTrader’s data suddenly looks much smaller than before, for example after a reinstall, TradeScope pauses syncing so nothing gets overwritten. You can then Restore from a backup, or confirm that NinjaTrader really was reset and carry on.

TradeScope never writes to or copies NinjaTrader’s own database.
